Why GR Yaris again?
Why am I getting a GR Yaris again? And selling the G87 M2 for it? Am I mad?
Well, the whole reason I got the G87 M2 was to compete in TimeAttack in the Challenge class. Unfortunately for it to race there it has to be 100% stock. Not even R-tires or camber plates. I have no intres burning up street tires on the track, and I do want some camber. So plan B, ProStreet.
In ProStreet I've competed with the M2 during 2024. With the most amount och weight and the least amount of power with very limited success. 🙃 And for the M2 to be competitive in this class I would have to do a lot of upgrades. And the initial plan was to run in Challenge with just a few simple mods.
But I had a MK1 GR Yaris before? Yes, I did, and I really liked it except a few things:
- No oil cooler from factory.
- Front strut tower had a weird "floating" solution.
- Interior not in my liking, seat was high (had to mod), and dash screen was high, creating a very narrow view port between it and the rear mirror.
- Brakes got hot easily.
For the MK2 Toyota has now fixed 3 of 4 of above and a bunch of other upgrades as for improved handling, reliability and tunability. An the new interior just looks so old school cool in my eyes. Awesome! And for the brakes, I'm confident I can solve that with the learnings I gained from the MK1.
So my reasons are:
- Fits perfectly in Challenge with some mods. Keeping it simple.
- Light.
- Simple reliable tech.
- Super good aftermarket support.
- Awesome on the ICE. Small brake kits are also available.
- Awesome on the backroads.
- It's a hatchback.
- Uses common tire sizes.
- Old School Cool.
This is why I've ordered a new 2025 GR Yaris 8-speed DAT. Picked the DAT since I want maximun reliability, and I do not want to do a money shift. 😵💫
